Kayak Build
Although not actually a personal design, this project demonstrates my hands on ability to work with multiple techniques to complete a functional kayak. Working from plans, the experience exposed me to various boatbuilding concepts and design considerations through practical implementation. The design comes from Chesapeake Light Craft.
Hull
Creating the hull by stitching together the panels with copper wire, adding bulkheads, trueing the form, filletting and fibreglassing.Deckbeam
Creating the laminated deckbeam by stretching the plywood panels over a form. This goes over the cockpit area to support the deck shape.
Deck
Adding the deck, coaming (also laminated, in-situ with plenty of clamps) and hatch trim. Lots of sanding, then a final polyurethane varnish to protect it all.
